Sound Design & Music Adaptation for Projection Mapping (Palacio Real)
For a projection mapping experience presented at the Palacio Real, Irradian Sound was commissioned to create the sound design and develop a contemporary musical adaptation of Joaquín Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranjuez”—reinterpreting the original piece through an electronic music language. Produced by Viscuit.es with postproduction by NEXcommunity, the project required a dynamic sonic narrative capable of evolving in sync with the visual storytelling, shaping pacing, emotion, and audience immersion throughout the show.
Adapting a Classic into a Contemporary Sonic Language
Projection mappings are living, time-based experiences: the music must transform, shift, and respond to the unfolding narrative on the façade. Our approach focused on preserving the iconic emotional core of the original composition while translating it into a modern electronic structure, designed to support visual transitions and build dramatic momentum.
Sound Design as Narrative and Spatial Experience
Alongside the musical adaptation, we designed the sonic passages that guide the audience through the mapping’s narrative arc—emphasizing key moments, enhancing atmosphere, and reinforcing spatial perception. The composition moved through different instrumental palettes, at times evoking the expressive language of animated film scores, while maintaining the energy and clarity needed for a public-facing show experience.
A Sonic Palette Built for a Shared Public Moment
As a large-scale cultural presentation designed for a broad audience, the final piece balances accessibility with detail, combining musical storytelling with carefully sculpted sound design. The result is a cohesive audiovisual experience where music and sound evolve together—supporting the visual language and elevating the Palacio Real mapping into an emotionally resonant public event.
